So Christmas has passed, celebrating the birth of our Lord. And now onto New Year and more new beginnings. A time to make promises and resolutions for many people.
I'm not out celebrating tonight but that's ok. I have the rest of the year to celebrate. Many times in the past few days I've wished I was doing something tonight - I didn't want to be alone on a night when so many people are together. But you can't force the issue. I'm turning it around to be a night of reflecting on all that was good about the year.
I've looked at the journal entry I wrote on 1st January this year... I didn't make resolutions as such but things I wanted to work on. They weren't absolute goals so I can't tick anything off but things that would make me grow as a person. On the whole I think I have worked on them and will carry them on into 2017. One of the things I wanted to do more of in 2016 was to write; I didn't quite know what format this would take and in fact it took me until June to start this blog which has been good therapy for me. I hope to add to it more regularly next year.
So looking back on the year; plenty of stuff has happened to challenge me but I've learned to deal with things better. Mentally I'm ending the year much stronger. Physically, my health has been less good with my asthma really taking a beating for most of the year. However, I was prescribed a new steroid inhaler just before Christmas and *touch wood* it seems to be helping a lot. I've avoided the sickness bugs and most of the colds going around so I can't really complain.
I've spent this afternoon with my best friend, drinking tea, watching Bargain Hunt followed by the Blues Brothers. Talking and not talking. Just being. That was a perfect way to spend time and something we've not had the chance to do for a long time. And it's what I needed - some company without any expectations to be particularly sociable.
Anyway I'm going to try to take 2017 a day at a time. Sure I have goals and dreams but living is for the moment.
Stay safe friends and enjoy January 1st 2017.
